TAKE SMALL STEP EATING HEALTHY

pexels-photo-326278.jpegI wanted to share with you some of the tips that I have learned myself in past couple of years and from my mother.

We all want to start eating healthy, be healthy and look healthy. At times we do not know how to start, do we cut everything we eat and start eating fully healthy? But, healthy food costs too much, how is this possible?

I have got a simple and short answer for you, start introducing healthy eating slowly. Yep, you have heard it right, slowly, baby steps.

One thing I remember that my mother got me used to is, drinking one glass of milk before I start brushing my teeth and going to bed. I drank that one glass of milk before bedtime for as long as I remember. This was for a health purpose later on the years, as I had white marks on my nails and drinking milk helped me as they have reduced significantly as I only have three to twenty marks, currently at the moment there are eleven marks on five fingers. Where as before my nails will be covered with white marks.

Then later on, I have introduced this habit with water. Every night I drink one glass of water before I go to bed. Then I introduced it in the morning as well, so when I wake up, after brushing the teeth and before I eat or drink such juice or tea, I make sure I drink a one glass of water before. Remember, at night our organs work and same as in the morning. So the best thing to provide your body is water than anything else and plus it is good for your skin.

Growing up in my mothers house meant there will be a lot of fruit and vegetables. Whatever the food she cooked and served us, she would always cut at least cucumber and tomatoes into slices and put them on plate and serve them. Believe it or not, we would eat them as it was quite nice texture especially when you dry food such as rice or potatoes. However, she would still serve it with soup and with many other dishes. This meant at least we had some kind of vegetables and she did not had to force us eating as it came with all the food.

We always ate our dinner around 6.30 or 7 pm and no later than that. So this meant my mother would put a large of bowl of fruit on the table and in the living room. Believe it or not, we would have finished both bowls at the end of the night, literally would demolish fruit every single night. What does this mean? This meant, we had our fruit and we would not eat any junk food after 7 pm. Remember, fruit is good and most of them are like water. So you not taking in anything bad which may result adding fat to your body.

Later on in life, when my life ended up upside down, my health went with it and so did my diet. I had depression and anxiety so badly that it is still with me to this day but not as much as it used to be. However, due to this my eating habits went downhill as well, to that extent I will not control what I ate as long as I was satisfied to the fullest so at times I would feel sick and yet will not feel full. I became a binge eater.

It took me years to force myself to control it, as I looked and reminded myself how I used to be and what did I became. I took a baby step yet again by reducing slightly by each day. My biggest food item that I cannot live without and binge eat is a bread. I used to eat 10 slices of bread with one meal, so there are 3 meals a day and I would eat 30 slices. Just re-reading this, makes me feel sad that I used to eat a whole loaf just in one day and if not more. However, I reduced it very slowly, if I had 10 slices, I would have only 6 to 7 slices per meal for one week. Then again will reduce it by one slice and I did this until I got down to 2 slices per meal. It took me months to do this but I have managed to keep it to 2 slices per meal.

When I have noticed that managed to reduce the bread, I started slowly reducing the amount of food I have per meal. I started using slightly smaller than normal size of plate and slowly reduced the size of plate as well. Now days, I prefer to eat all of the food in a bowl than on a plate. It gives illusion as if you are having a lot as you think it is deep but actually it is not that deep and are having much more less than on a large flat plate. Remember on large flat plate, we fill full the plate and start building up as well.

With the food, I try to remind myself what my mother used to tell us and will do, and how we used to eat when we were living with her. This made me change slowly as well.

There is no one way to start eating healthy, if there was none of us will suffer and neither we will be sharing or seeking advice. You only need to take a small step, you know your body well. What ever you decide make sure your body does not suffer and first seek advice from your doctors. If you are unsure or afraid then ask your doctor on how you should start eating healthier and if they can guide you by baby steps.

DECLUTTER TIPS: EMAILS

In today’s post I will be sharing how I decluttered my own email account and how useful has it been since then.

We all receive different kinds of emails whether it will be personal, bank related, bills related, shopping, competitions or general subscriptions. At times having all together in one email can be overwhelming, I know it was for me.

As you can see below I have overall 501 emails and when I am waiting for certain type of email, I have to keep check or keep up with deleting emails. At times it takes quite a bit of time keeping up with the emails.

You can resolve this solution by taking either one of the two following steps.

Step one: Keeping one email

If you want just to keep one email then you will have to put a time aside where you can clear your email out for good. First thing first, unsubscribe from all the companies and brands that you do not keep up with. Then delete all the emails from all the subscriptions, trust me these will be the most on your email. Once you have done this, quick glance through all the emails and see what have you got left in your inbox.

Make folders for all the different and important emails that you have got such as folders for bank, bills, CV’s, Jobs applied etc. Make the folders that are relevant to your personal or work related life, at times we use personal email for work as well. This way, you can sort your email when new emails come through, respond to the emails that you may need to, once responded to the email then move to the relevant folder. This way you know the ones in inbox that are left that you need to respond to.

Remember, to clear your ‘Other’ inbox and ‘Junk’ inbox as well. Personally, I hate these two inboxes as it takes extra time to go through these.

The other tip is just check your emails twice or three times a week, just put a reminder in your calendar and sort your inbox out.

Step two: Have two accounts

If you feel having one account and is difficult to keep up with the inbox then I suggest have two different email accounts. For example, you can create two emails which ending different, one with ‘outlook.com’ and one with ‘hotmail.com’. You can use one for personal emails such as banks, bills, jobs etc. and the other for social, subscriptions etc.

Having two accounts does not make it easier but you will be able to find emails easier. However, have same principle for both email accounts as in Step One, this way it will help you to find emails in future if they are categorised separately in folders.

Personally, I have one account for my personal life but I have got two separate accounts which one I use for blog etc. and one for social media only, where readers etc. can contact me. This way, I can control my accounts and do not mix them up.

DECLUTTER TIPS: EMAILS

HELLO FEBRUARY | 2018

January already gone, we are already couple of days into February.

Did we stick to all our New Year resolution or goals, or whatever you want to call it.

I am taking this month to go over my New Year goals, see which ones I have started, which ones that I really want to achieve and review over the ones that I have not started yet. To make sure that I will be able to achieve those goals but if not then I will postpone them for another month/6 months or to next year.

I do not see a point wasting my time and energy to the goals that I will not be able to achieve.

Also it allows you to check the reality, can you really achieve the amount of goals that you have set up for yourself, may be there are too many for you mind? It is great to re-read and put them in categories Started, Progress, Not Started-Postpone.

This is exactly what I will be doing, I did set up quite few goals but I know always will struggle with health goal – losing weight and eating healthy…this is going to be a long battle for me, trust me!

Therefore, one advice I will give is not to pressure yourself too much, use this month, February, to re-calculate and edit your resolutions/goals for this year. At the start of the year, we can be so excited, we write everything down that we want to achieve without thinking how long it will take and what may stop you doing it e.g. time, people, place etc.

Re-look at your goals and concentrate on three to five goals this year, postpone the rest for later.

Taking a small steps and making small changes will achieve much greater than trying to take a big step and trying to achieve a big change. As we all know, habits are habits so it is much better taking small steps and making small changes.

HELLO FEBRUARY | 2018

JANUARY FAVOURITES | 2018

January month went by so quick and we had few couple of nice days and a lot of cold days.

This month has been quite relaxing for me as I do not work anymore so it is quite nice to have a break from work environment. However, it has messed up my bed time routine that is for sure.

Anyways, this month I have enjoyed quite few things such as Netflix and Ludo.

I have been watching Friends, the Big Bang Theory and few couple of movies this month.

I have and enjoying Friends a lot as I always wanted to see it from beginning as well as the Big Bang Theory. Thank you Netflix!

I also have enjoyed couple of movies on Netflix, The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: the Scorch Trials and Mad Max.

Other series I have started is Van Helsing and Shadow Hunters, which is quite good.

I have been obsessed with Ludo game, I do not know why I have not played it before which is crazy but I am loving it now.

I have started walking a lot which is very satisfying as I am not working, so moving around helps.

I have managed to keep up with my blog, which only missed one blog post this month, whoop whoop! So happy and proud of myself.

I think that is it to be honest. I took this month to chill a lot and see what I want to do for my future.

As one of my goals for 2018 is to read more books, so I did an online shopping. The books that I have chosen are the ones that I really need and based on reviews were quite good.

The books that I have bought are

  • Get Your Sh*t Together by Sarah Knight
  • The Anxiety Solution by Chloe Bortheridge
  • The Curated Closet by Anuschka Rees
  • Little Black Book by Otegha Uwagba

I already talked about the Little Black Book as I have completed reading this book as it was quite small.

I have read a couple of pages of other books but I cannot remember fully as read them when I got them.

So once I have read them, I will do review as I did for Little Black Book.

I wanted to write this here so I have to read them and review them for you coming up months.

MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MAKE-UP

My relationship with make-up is quite simple. I tend to not use much of make-up and only use it when I have to only.

I use make-up mostly when I am going out, to weddings or events. At times just on the days that I feel like.

Since I remember, as I child used to play with my mum’s make-up which she had a lot of L’oreal and No 7, quite few others which I do not remember the names.

I am still big fan of L’oreal and No.7, I use their make-up products as well as skin care.

I think it is good to keep a healthy relationship with the make-up because I do, as I keep my skin in very good condition. My skin is very important to me as it is very delicate part of the body.

I never use any make-up when my skin is in bad condition. For example, if I get spots or my skin is bad then I do not wear any kind of make-up at all. I let my skin to breathe and recover on its own.

Well, there it is…my relationship with makeup. I do have few bits of make-up but I keep it to a minimal as much as I can.
